Victor M. Urbaez - Bio

Victor M. Urbaez graduated from the University of the District of Columbia School of Law where he was involved in school government as a Student Representative.  Before that he graduated with his Bachelors from Manhattan College where there he too represented the student body as VP of the Latino Organization.  But what Urbaez really dreamed of was representing his people - whether from his island nation of the Dominican Republic, or Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Colombians, Ecuadorians, Peruvians, - the entire "pueblo".

Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Washington Heights, New York, you can usually catch Urbaez somewhere near 181st street.  One day while on the corner of 181st street with his cousin and his nephew, the cops were circling and patrolling the area.  But what is interesting is that his cousin was starting his senior year at Albany State University.  His nephew is a medical doctor, graduate of Colombia University Medical School.  And of course Urbaez, is a licensed attorney.  But as Urbaez well knows, the cops circling wouldn't know that, couldn't see that, and wouldn't see that, and probably wouldn't believe it if they found out.

As Urbaez puts on his suit and walks into the courtroom, however, there is no question who the attorney is.  Urbaez understands that when he walks into that courtroom, he is the voice of his client, the voice of his people, his "pueblo".  When he represents his clients he remembers how the cops harassed him in Washington Heights, his teachers told him he wouldn't amount to anything and one of his coaches even threatened him - just for being Dominican.  As the voice of "the people" he calls himself "tu abogado del pueblo".

Another reason why he is called "tu abogado del pueblo" is because one day he was called on a case at a moment's notice, and he had no opportunity to change.  He went to court wearing a guayabera.  The running joke:  That's why they call him "tu abogado del pueblo"  because he goes to court with a guayabera on!

But the real reason is that he understands the special needs of the Latino community.  Because of this, the law firm of Torres and Urbaez is a general practice law firm, meaning that it takes on a wide variety of cases.  From civil cases, criminal cases, immigration, and family law to trademark, sports and entertainment law.  So don't sign that contract before calling Urbaez!  Don't go to court for child support, without calling Urbaez.  If you get arrested, make Urbaez your first phone call.  It might take him a minute to change from his guayabera to his suit- but, hey!  they don't call him 'Tu Abogado del Pueblo' for nothing"!
