Girlfriend of Garfield teen fatally shot by officers files suit against police 

The girlfriend of a Garfield man fatally shot by police in December 2011 has filed a federal lawsuit alleging police tempted him to escape from custody and then “viciously and unjustifiably” shot him after he was found in a residential garage.


Rivera is seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages, costs, disbursements and attorney’s fees, according to the federal complaint. She is represented by Garfield attorney Victor Urbaez.
